I've said it before but I feel the need to say it again, to put it into print.
Little of our work is easy. But, all of it is worth it.
The tough days sometimes outshine the other days. I know better leaders don't admit defeat as we've been taught that's not what (good) leaders do. Make the days count. Do your best. Set the tone.
We can try and pretend to be made of steel but know, underneath, that is not the case. We bend.
On some days, we will not make the cut.
On some days, we will mess up.
We will neglect to communicate a needed message.
We won't know the answer.
We will doubt our abilities as educators and leaders.
BUT...
When we remind ourselves that we are still brave, committed, and a positive force to be reckoned with, we will bounce back. When we are brave enough to do this work, we make a commitment to share with our whole hearts. What we will eventually realize, once the dust settles and a bad day moves on, is that this work, our work, requires much bravery -- plain and simple. Leading and learning in school requires all hearts in...on all kinds of days.
Little of our work is easy. But, all of it is worth it. Always.
Dr. Brene Brown: The Two Most Dangerous Words in Your Vocabulary
"There is no innovation and creativity without failure. So you have to be open enough to take the risk to fail.
Sometimes, the bravest thing we can do is to get right back up the next day and go right back in.

DeleteFantastic! Thanks for sharing so eloquently what we all feel, but can't express as you have.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gary. Didn't feel eloquent at time but felt responsible to tell the truth. I think we all benefit when we share more openly. Thanks for taking time to leave comment.
